There I was thinking to myself, what’s going on, why do we need a home library now ? What a pregnant woman want’s, she gets I guess. In truth there is some logic to the madness, but I can’t deny that at first this idea was very strange for me.

Anyways, the order was given for a home library. It was time for me to do my research and somehow make my wives wishes a reality. This is a project I’ve been putting off for a while, despite it being something we’ve discussed a long time ago. Just to give you a sneak peek behind the curtains, the logic was very simple. We have a lot of books stored in the room that will soon become a baby room. We also have books all over the house slotted into all kinds of gaps. In the living room we have an empty wall. The stars aligned and it made sense to get it done for all the mentioned reasons.

Since we are fans of the Scandinavian design, you guessed it, I ended up finding what we need at everyone’s favourite Swedish furniture supplier. This is not a paid add, we all know which store I’m talking about. To keep it easier I will mention the names of the exact furniture pieces I used. Since we are honest, I kind of knew this is what will happen. Majority of the furniture in our house is from that place. If I ever quit my day job and this blogging adventure doesn’t work out, guess where I’ll start working at.

I found what we need in the combination of two BESTA TV stands and BILLY book shelves. Why not only use the book shelves, I can hear your question. Is everything really that simple, especially with a pregnant woman in the equation. I know, this is getting to sound weird, but stick with me, it will make sense. I had to use this combination to fulfil all the requirements of storage and to hit the desired height and to make it fit with existing furniture.

Since we are talking about a home library, my first and main issue was the overall weight this thing needs to hold. Obviously a TV stand can hold some weight but it wasn’t enough. I also had to make sure it is all secure to the wall. I stumbled across similar ideas on the web, so I went ahead and took some inspiration. Stealing with pride, I would call this value. After some thinking, and calculating, I came to the conclusion that I need a multitude of heavy duty L brackets.

After turning our living room wall into Swiss cheese to mount all the brackets I was confident. The overall weight these will hold together with the TV stands, it will work. I did the project in parts over a few days. Took me an afternoon to assemble all the furniture. The next day I set it all up and measured for where my brackets will go. On the third day I drilled and screwed everything together. Final assembly was a breeze and took me an additional few hours.

Seeing the end result, I was proud of myself.  I did what my wife asked for and we finally have a proper home library. A happy wife, equals a happy life, the moral of the story. At least until she has another idea and starts nagging at me to do it.

In the end, a job well done. Comment below, are you working on some interesting home projects ?
