Have you ever wondered how it feels when a pregnant woman feels her baby for the first time ? Well hello popcorn, is the best way it was described to me.

Another milestone on our pregnancy journey. As the weeks keep on going, you get through all kinds of scenarios. One random day you will also arrive at this point. Where your wife will just say I think I felt the baby. Me as a complete uneducated fool on these matters asked. How did it feel ? I wasn’t ready for the reply that’s for sure. The most accurate way that she could describe it is, it’s like popcorn popping. Awesome, I had no clue how that could feel but at least it gave me an idea.

I’m sharing this because it truly was a momentous moment. Yes you can see, something on the ultrasound. The pregnancy test is positive. The doctor tells you. Your partner is going through changes, some of it you can even notice. Once you start feeling it though, that’s a real proof. Life is growing and you have the first true physical signs of it. Not sure what others might have felt but for us this stuck, and with it also a nickname came. We still didn’t know if it’s a boy or a girl. I had my suspicions but more on that at a later post. So since we like to give nicknames and call things something different, the baby became popcorn.

From that point on codename popcorn was in effect. For every baby related conversation it was popcorn and not baby or anything else. Might regret this at some later stage, but we also shared this with some friends and the name seems to have stuck. Poor kid is not even born and he already has a nickname that he or she will probably not enjoy very much. Especially if we tell the story of how it came to be. Anyways, what are parents for then to shame you in front of your friends. A parental milestone unlocked beforehand.

The other interesting part of this entry. Once the popping began, it intensified and became mor frequent very quickly. I’m talking days here, maybe a couple of weeks. At that point it was so obvious that even I started feeling it. So it became like a daily routine. Place your hand on the pregnant belly, stay quiet and wait to start feeling your child popping away in the mother’s womb. Not going to lie, it was interesting and fun to do that and see how it’s getting stronger and stronger.

Hope you enjoyed todays entry, and the series so far. Make sure to let me know in the comments.

See you next week for another entry in Dad’s chronicles.
